Today my son casually mentioned that Link had a big fat belly. I didn't think much about it at the time (too busy with the darned iPod thing). Later he walked in front of me and I had to take a second look - WOW - HUGE BELLY!!!!! The guy looked like he was going to give birth soon. I felt it, it was tight as a drum. Right away I thought he got into something. We looked all over for "evidence", found nothing. I weighed him, he was a whole pound heavier than yesterday. I called the vet, she said just to watch him as long as he was still acting normal, and to bring him in in the morning as they suspected worms. Worms??? He gained a whole pound in 24 hrs - I didn't think it was worms. Then my youngest son remembered he had stashed Link's old puppy food in his bedroom closet (!!!!! in the CLOSET?????!!!!!) (I swear this child cannot be mine...). This food was supposed to have been thrown out months ago. Sure enough, there was a snout sized hole in the bag and much of it was gone. Ugh. But, at least it wasn't something poisonous or sharp. And, he's still sniffing around the kitchen as if I'm going to serve him some dinner.:ARG:

You now have a dog who believes that he can find food in closets. I guarantee you that he will be extremely nosy now, he's already been rewarded once. And I wonder if he ate it all at once, or kept sneaking back? Did you ever notice a sly smile on his face as he walked past you? LOL  Oh, he truly is a Corgi, stuffed to the gills, and still wanting his usual dinner!!!

Wicca says Way to Go Link! Wicca is always doing things like that. I wouldn't feed him at all tomorrow, I am sure he won't starve!

When Wicca was a puppy, and I was a new corgi owner (my shepherds would never dream of getting into stuff that was off limits) She was horrible for that sort of thing. She once ate a whole 4lb bag of cat food. Gone, completely- It wasn't even opened yet! She was rather ill, and I made her throw most of it up.
When I first got Sam he managed to flip the lid on the dog food bin and ate a good portion- he looked like he swallowed a balloon- I was determined to make him throw up but instead of throwing up he'd just swallow it again...Not that you all wanted that visual...but just thought I'd share ;)

Where there's food a Corgi will surely be!!!

Keep an eye on him and don't let him fill up with water until some of that food has digested. (Don't not let him drink but watch how much.) Kibble can soak up water in the belly and cause even more problems.

And just so you won't feel alone, I had one of mine get into a bag of food once, she opened it herself and ate till her stomach was drum hard. I sat up with her all night making sure she didn't bloat. She moaned and groaned all night as she had a hard time finding a comfortable position to sleep in.

LOL!!! The classic corgi glutton. My oldest son said he kept seeing Link walking into his brother's room. He though Link was looking for Alex. Ha! He's a sneaky piggy, that Link!

I'm loving all the corgi pig-out stories! It sounds like pretty normal behavior.:ARG:

Link was fine all last evening and night. He wanted to play outside but we didn't let him run around like normal. He went to bed with the bloated belly and slept all night. I don't know yet what DH fed or didn't feed him this AM, but his belly is MUCH smaller. He's being his normal sassy puppy self, chewed part of my shoe already today. We'll go for our morning walk in a little bit.

Wow, I hadn't thought about the water thing until Peggy posted.

Poor Link, I hope his tummy is hurting him less as time goes on.

Yogurt might help with the gas.

Keep an eye on him, diarrhea can be another side effect of pigging out!

No squirts, thank goodness! Not even a soft serve, this guy is amazing. His gas is gone now for the most part. I did give him some yogurt and kefir, I'm sure that helped.

I wish I had taken a picture with the fat belly. I actually tried to at one point, but he gets all hyped up now when he hears the camera being turned on. Anyone else's dog do this? I can't seem to turn the noise (a little music thing) off in the camera settings. It's a Sony DSC-P72. Millie barks at the noise. It makes candid shots pretty much impossible.+SAD+
