Just a reminder to everyone about the danger of potato chip bags and corgis.
Chip and Dale were wrestling on the bed - there favorite pastime and I glanced in on them and there was Chip with a potato chip bag over his head:ARG: The bag was going in and out as he breathed and scared me to death. I snatched it off from him and he looked at me with the silliest corgi grin on his face and licked his chops. I have no idea how he got that bag. I thought I would share as a reminder that dogs have suffocated from a potato chip bag. Thank you Lord for watching over my Chip.

Thanks for the reminder Bonnie of what can happen.
What dog doesn't want to stick his head in an empty bag of chips to lick out the rest of the crumbs - my cats do this also.

Sadly this is how one of our Dogster Corgi friends died a few months ago. They came home and found him dead - it's a horrible sad thing - but something for us all to remember.

Glad you were right there Bonnie, I remember one lady from petloss.com who's dog suffocated to death in a bag, he was only alone for about 15 minutes but that was enough time for him to get into trouble... very scarey

This was impetus for me to go in to my kitchen and do a search for my bags, make sure they were up high. They were up thankfully, but thank you for the PSA. Better to check and be safe!

Just an FYI - for my friend it was an empty bag taken out of the garbage. So, when you throw out these types of bags - open the other end so they become a tube and are harmless to your pets and anything else that may get into it in your outside garbage can or at the dump.

Thanks for the reminder, Bonnie. Glad that you were there. The other night we had a bad wind storm and I had about 4 plastic bags blown into my backyard.

Thank goodness you were there! And thank you all for letting me know of this potential danger. That never would have occurred to me. The same thing could happen with bread bags, I guess. The only answer is vigilence, I guess.
On a much lighter note: we keep chips out of our homes, we keep dangerous chip bags away from our beloved corgis and other furchildren . . . and help our waistlines, too!
Thanks, again for the head's up.

What a scare I'll bet that was, Bonnie!! I'll tell you, they're like kids that you have to watch constantly. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the thigh high garbage container I have in the kitchen yet...maybe put bungee cords over the top and set it in the dining area when I leave Bubba in the morning. He can't get to the dining room. A very similar story was in "Everything Corgi" and it makes you stop and think how easy it is for accidents to happen.

That is a plan to put it in the dining area if he can't get into it. Or you could put it in a closet behind closed doors.

He can't get to it, Linda. He'll be in the kitchen when I'm away with two gates at both entrances...one to the dining area. No closet to put it in as the pantry door has "stuff" in it and the other one likewise. I'd set it out on the deck but, being summer, it would draw flies and maybe other critters.

We store our opened chips above the refrigerator - kept it away from our snacking son and now our puppy. Good tip on the bags we throw out. How scary to see your dog not really being able to breathe.

Great PSA, sometimes we really have to be reminded of things like this.

another idea for you, David, would be to get a step lid metal can, that is what we did to keep out Clinton cat and it works with corgis too... here is what we got...

they also have a lot of other shapes and styles that can fit about anywhere:

We have the can that Emilie mentions above and it works great.
Bonnie - I'm so happy that you were home to save Chip. How scary. Thanks for the PSA. I will be cutting my bags as Deb suggests from now on . . . just in case!
