I just got off the phone (after 45 minutes!) with Bubba's Mom and we talked about him for a while and she said it was 11:30 (CST) and that the vet had told her to call about then. I waited and she called back after a few minutes and told me all went well with the surgery and he was awake and doing good!!:CUTE: He told her she could pick him up around 5:00, her time, and that he also cleaned Bubba's teeth, at my request, since they needed it just a little and may as well do it while he was asleep. So, he got his choppers done as well.

So-the boy done good and she'll get a few pain pills for him and keep him crated for awhile so he doesn't hurt himself. I'm glad for him it's over and hope he's up and about in a few days...sloooowly. Looks like everythng went well and thanks for remembering him and I'm sure if he could say it..."Wheeeew, I'm glad this is over!!"

I'm so glad that it's over and that he did good! When do you get to get him? Is it sometime next month? Oh, I can't wait!

Glad to hear that he is fine, and good thinking on your part to have his teeth cleaned at the same time; you are already falling into your dog ownership duties and he isn't even home yet:WINK: What a lucky boy he will be.

May I suggest that we all indulge in a Starbucks drink in celebration??? (And yes, I use any excuse to go to Starbucks, but in this case, it's a great one!!!)

David,

You don't need to have a personal calendar to keep track of what Bubba needs to have done; all of us will help you remember everything, we will be like Mother hens making sure all is well with you and Bubba:LAUGH:

MGM,

Starbucks sounds good to me, what is the best thing you would recommend; I don't like anything too strong and it is not far from me so I will hop on over there later today if you make a recommendation.

They have a new Raspberry Mocha Frap, or they can make it hot, a Raspberry Mocha. YUMMY!!! (But I do also love their iced coffees.)

ColColt

You guys are great!! Yep-I figured they should at least check his choppers since I'm no fan of anathesia for them anyway and may as well do all they could for him under the situation. i'll be waiting for a call tonight to see how he's doing once she gets him home.

I told her I was looking at maybe the weekend after the 4th to come up and get him. I want to get another gate up and the fence installed before I go so all will be ready when he gets here. Right now, it may be week after next before I can get the fence done according to their schedule. He needs a fence and I need that peace of mind knowing when we play, he can't get out.

His Mom also told me he liked to get up in your lap...all 32-35 pounds of him. She said, "I told Bubba he wasn't a Chiwawa(sp?)!!". I may have to get him some low fat Innova instead of the regular I bought.

I don't have a Starbuck's nearby MGM but, I'll sure lift a glass of iced tea to that!!

MissGambler's+Mojo'sMommy
06-19-2007, 12:46 PM
Sweetened iced tea sounds great!!! And the 4th couldn't be more appropriate for getting him, the whole country will be setting off fireworks in celebration of Bubba's new home!!! (Now that I think about it, you may want to keep him really close to you that night, and indoors, everything will be new and scary, then he may hear fireworks, so remember that.)

ColColt

No-not getting him on the 4th, MGM...probably the weekend after the 4th. I don't like traveling on the 4th-too many crazies out there. Maybe the racket will have subsided by the time I get him the next weekend. I thought about taking off on a Thursday and going up so I could have several days with him before going back to work that Monday. I'll introduce him to the house and yard, neighborhood and then to PetSmart so he can show off his stuff! May just have to get him a "do" if needed while we're there.

Good for you David for letting work wait for a day or so while you make friends with Bubba! You will find it is well worth the investment in time. When Zena entered our lives right about this time last year, I took Friday through Tuesday off to get her acclimated to her new home and acquainted with her new brother and sister. I enjoyed the time and found it rewarding. I'm sure you will, too!

the more I look at Zach, the more he reminds me of Bubba. He and Rupert also have similar coloring...even the little white shoes!

I didn't know I was getting one either, Lauren! It just sort of happened that way. I was going to wait awhile maybe until the first of the year but, you know about the best laid plans of mice and men. I'm glad I found out about Bubba through Bonnie and I would not have know about him had it not been for her...bunches of hugs Bonnie!!

I stopped by Wally World on the way home and picked up a baby gate for the downstairs and got Bubba a couple of more balls along with a measuring cup as the only one I had was one of them tumbler types. This is like buying for a baby!! Maybe I should have had a Bubba shower and cut down on some of the expenses!!

You two may have something there. Party planning is a really big thing now, and you do have to plan and buy so much for a new dog, PUPPY SHOWERS would be wonderful, and you could even register at Petco and such, I bet that you could get a big chain in on this, it would bring in people to register, and people to shop from the register, Win-Win situation. I love this idea. It would work.

OH my gosh! a shower? well see, now i have been saying that for years! When i was getting Dillon, i was thinking why is it that everyone in my office who has a baby gets a shower with lots of fun gifts and useful things...yet when we are getting ready to bring our "baby" home we got no party, no gifts , nothin'!!!! LOL

I thought a shower was a neat idea myself.:CUTE: Just an update about Bubba again. I talked with his Mom a few minutes ago and she said he was doing great and didn't need any pain killers. She said she didn't think he even knew what happened so far anyway. She has him crated and will for a few days to cut down his activity. So, it looks like a thumbs up and a successful surgery!!

This woman is a wonder. She gave baths to 25 Corgis last Saturday and sang to them as she washed them!! I asked her what she sang and she said she was singing that commercial with the little pups about "Ain't no bugs on me"!! I thought I'd croak!! That is a cute commercial but I couldn't image her singing that to her caravan of Corgis! She must be a great Mom to them and I know they are all taken well care of.

Just sent this to PetsMart for their consideration:

'I was just visiting my favorite website (http://www.cool2bcorgi.com/forums/ (http://www.cool2bcorgi.com/forums/)) and reading updates on a friend getting a new corgi. We had the idea of a "pet registry" like they have at Baby's-R-Us for new parents. Lots of people now days spends tons of money on new pets. How hard would it be to have a registry for new pet owners? It would certainly boost sales....'

Who knows? It may be something that comes about due to just one little inquiry...

Maybe they could start up a new place in town...Corgi specific, of course. Let's see...how about "We be Corgis"!!

A puppy shower would have been perfect and so much fun. Poor Dale got all of Chip's hand me downs until I felt bad and did buy him a new collar of his very own. They have a huge box of toys so I don't buy many any more. When I buy a new one for each, Dale is in seventh heaven until chip steals it. :TWITCHY:

A pet registry? Hmmmm....you know, lots of people don't have kids. Their dogs are their kids. The pet industry should take note.

We do them in Miami. When everyone in my office knew that Zack was coming, they got together and threw a puppy shower for me and my soon to be puppy. In fact as about 5 people in the office got dogs and/or puppies that spring and summer, we had 5 different showers to go to. As the office dog crowd got bigger the new additions to the families started coming. So that by the time Zack's came around there were something like 25 people and 4 dogs in attendance. It was bedlam as you can imagine, but it was so much fun. In addition, Zack got outfitted for about his firtst six or seven months in terms of equipment, treats and toys. I wish I had the pictures to show you. They were as you can imagine really cute. If you have friends bringing new furred members into their families, it really is a fun get together.

Later that year in the lull between Christmas and the start of the new semester, the VP we all worked for let us bring our dogs to work. One of those excursions to the office led to my favorite Zack story:LAUGH: of all time. Someday I'll tell you guys of how up close and personal Zack and the President of the Florida International University got to be. (How's that for a teaser!)

Delilah, if you don't take this and run with it, someone else will, there is a market for PUPPY SHOWERS. And Bonnie, like you, I didn't need any toys when Mojo joined the household, but felt guilty that she didn't have her own, so started shopping for her, now when I buy something for one, I have to buy something for the other. But even I can see that the only thing they want, is what the other has, they don't care if it's new or old.

And as for Bubba, I am so happy that he is acting as if nothing happend(but can you imagine that  ) and he is so lucky to have had such a wonderful caretaker, he's had a great start in life, and comes pre-spoiled it sounds, so get ready!!!

I'm afraid so. It's gotten to the point I can't go anywhere without sprinkling magic dust on these things as they all seem to come alive whenever I walk by. They must not like the stores as they all want to come home with me!

Pre spoiled, indeed, MGM. He's rocked, sang to and who knows what else. I don't mind rocking him or having him sleep in my lap/bed, but I ain't singing to no Corgi!! The howling would start every dog in the neighborhood!!:CUTE:

If he's really that used to singing, then may I suggest that you get him a cd by a female singer, like Reba, or such. If he's used to hearing a woman's voice sing to him all the time, he may like it.

Zack chimes in when I practice! So you're right Bubba might well want to sing a duet with you. I gotta tell you, though if he's anything like Zack, who is otherwise a throughly charming companions, he won't be able to carry a tune in a bucket!

DAVID, don't get mad for me throwing this in, but it was in this thread, and I just caught it.

LINDA: if you were referring to the strength of the coffee, and not about one that isn't too over-the-top, then always ask the coffee shop if it's Sumatra, if it is, don't get it. That's about the strongest and earthiest(as in tasts like dirt)that you can get, and a fav of most coffee shops. I love my coffee drinks fixed with breakfast blends, so ask if they are using that. (If you didn't mean this, and already knew this, I apologize.) Darn it, now I want Starbucks! Can we have another virtual Starbucks celebration for Bubba today? He did so well, doesn't it deserve a two day celebration?????

Good idea, MGM-I don't know who Reba is but if you think it may work...wonder how he'd respond to Janis Joplin? I might get to howling with him.:CUTE: My Mom use to sing to me when I was little. The only two songs I remember was "The Girl in the Blue Velvet Band" and "The Tennessee Waltz". Stange- the things you remember. I wouldn't attempt singing as I'd probably sound like a dying calf in a hail storm.

I've never had Starbucks...only seen the shop and saw it on TV. But, celebrate indeed!! I just like plain old Maxwell House or Folgers...shaken but not stirred!!
