I turned my back on Dale for about 5 minutes this morning and he comes into the bathroom where I am getting for work all covered with tiny black ants. I immediately started brushing them off him and my husband helped too. They were all about dead and seemed to be on the surface of his fur. We searched and found a rather large watermelon rind covered with black ants and can only surmise that Dale rolled on it and mushed the ants and they stuck to his fur. How would the watermelon rind get in the yard? I am babysitting my son's mountain fiest/blue heeler mix who is a major thief so he must have snatched and ran when my husband wasn't looking and dropped it in the yard. (He also got my supper last night that I left on the table unattended for a second.) Anyway, Dale is fine - the vet just said to watch him for swelling for awhile. It has been over an hour so I would think if he was going to have a reaction, he would have had it by now. Thankfully, when things happen to Dale, he searches me out. I put frontline on Dale a couple nights ago so that may have helped. My son's dog also had fleas. It has been a week.

I would have loved to have seen what he did with that watermelon. Was it food to him, or a toy??? So funny.

I bought a small watermelon the other day (about 10' round). Cut it in half - split it with my daughter. I then cut my rind in 1/2 and threw one of those pieces out in the backyard for Delilah to play with and gnaw on. I won't do that again.....!!! She reacts to watermelon like I do! All that extra fluid in her system showed up during the night in watery stools! And she only chewed up 1/2 of the piece I gave her! (It broke in half when I threw it and the other dogs got the other part) Her stools are okay now, but dang what a mess that night! :ARG: :CHATTERBOX:

Bonnie ~ Glad that Dale is ok. I'm glad he's not showing a reaction. I remember how scared I was whenZeke had his reaction 2 weeks ago.
Patricia ~ Poor Delilah. Glad she's doing better.

He was the most pathetic looking little thing with those ants all over him. I have called and checked on him and he is doing fine. It does make one nervous though.

I am not sure what he was doing with it. He wasn't out of my sight for maybe five minutes so I can only assume he decided to roll all over the watermelon and picked up the ants. He was red & white with ants all over him. When I told the vet about it, he said he had never heard of such a thing. I never have seen the likes of it either but he was pathetic looking and then when we were brushing them off him, I rolled him over on his back to get his tummy, he started sassing me. The ungrateful little pup:LAUGH:

It sure didn't take long for Dale to get fiesty again! Why they like to "waller" in things like that is beyond me. Maybe that was his way and method of putting on something sweet smelling for Mom-you reckon?

Not sure of the motive, but it wasn't a great way to start off my day. Wiggley freckles on a little corgi is not a good site:SMILE: He wasn't the worse for wear though. When he was really little, he got a thorn in his paw and came hobbling on three paws to me to pull it out. He keeps me on my toes and yes he is back to normal thank goodness. Even pulling on my pantlegs again so his mouth must be about healed.

poor little guy, i hate bugs and the thought of ants crawling all over me would put me over the top.. in the shower i would go... ewwww. Glad he is doing well after his surgery as well, sounds like he is feeling good with the sassing and the pulling on the pant leg!

I just thought of something, he was covered in ants and you couldn't throw him in a shower because of his surgery!!! I didn't even think about that, what timing, you couldn't even wash him off, if that was me, I would be itching for weeks, just thinking about them makes my skin crawl. Poor Dale, I bet he's looking forward to a bath.
