I just sent a reply to the group (I didn't see this) how many crates will fit in our Santa Fe?

Jespah
08-03-2010, 06:36 PM
Awesome Kassie!

I'd say 3 crates - but I think you have to be prepared to walk them for tinkle breaks. It may depend on the leg you do. I'm sure they will be glad to help you with any info you might need.

I just talked to Carol, we're going to do at least one leg and maybe 2.

You don't have to take the dogs out of the car and walk them do you?

Kassie
08-03-2010, 07:53 PM
The legs are short enough that walks are at transfers.

We're excited! They've changed and combined some legs of the transport so now we're going to take 5 corgis from Urbana Il to Indy. It is wonderful to be able to help these puppers get to where they will go to forever homes and get the loving they deserve.

Wow, Corgi Overload! You guys are super for doing this. As I recall (and depending where in Indy you're going) that's a fairly easy drive. Lots of open road. Maybe you can get all the corgis singing a round! :ROLLEYES

We're excited! We're getting ready to leave for Indy to meet our leg of the Corgi transport! Woo Hoo! Amazing how many dogs are on the road! A transport of almost 70 dogs of all breeds left Bloomington yesterday for a variety of places coming from a hoarding situation in a neighboring county.

It really was a wonderful experience. By the time transport happened there were only 4 dogs, 2 for our car and 2 for the other. When the dogs arrived the 2 little girls were so tiny! maybe 15 pounds. They were all scared, of course. We had a male and a female. A loveable little r/w guy with one eye named Dakota, who Joni fell in love with. He just couldn't get enough attention. And a little girl named Emily who was very timid but as soon as I had her in my arms she snuggled in and didn't want to let go. She was a tri and looked like a mini Aine. The hardest part was we didn't have them long enough! We passed them on for the next leg to some wonderful folks who have done this for a while. It was wonderful meeting the folks we met and an honor to be able to help these little dogs on their way to happy homes!. Joni took some pictures on her phone, she'll have to email them to me and I'll try to post them tomorrow.

Kassie - thanks for helping these guys out. They were coming out of a bad situation and hopefully they will be on their way to a better life.

Sadly you can't spend a lot of time with the dogs on a transport - I've always wanted to do an overnight but I am usually near the end of the run.

For those of you what want to get involved in this effort, go into Yahoo Groups and in the group search type something like "I-95 Transport" - just use your nearest major interstate.

There are tranports that run most weekend through most parts of the country. Most runs are an hours or so.

Last night I did a transport of a Chessapeake Bay Retriever coming from SC going to a rescue in ME.

It is a rewarding expirence, regardless of the breed

I signed up for I-95 and I-76. I got to overnight a Corgi that was going from Iowa to Maine. since the woman in Maine is a friend I drove her to Maine. What a joy to see new mom and dog meet. And I got to spend a few days.

I envy you Betsie - I hope some day to transport a Corgi, even better to do an overnight.

What amazed me most was the resilient little spirits. These little ones hadn't had much love, but they sure responded to it. I hope they all become the pampered pups they deserve to be!

That's wonderful of you Pat - you are right, it doesn't have to be a Corgi, there are lots of dogs that desparately need help - too many in fact.

Good information too. Just for those who may not know, there is a Corgi transport group on Yahoo, here is the website:
