2010 PWCCSC Specialty - May 27, 2010 - Los Angeles County Fairplex (http://www.pwccsc.org/events.html)

Is anyone going? I'm delighted to say the Gromit and I and my wife and Holly The Insane Wiener Dog will all be there. +JIGGY+

It would be fun to meet up with other C2BC people that might be there.

Rats, I never keep on top of these things, mainly because they're always held in LA (hate the drive.) Already have plans for the entire weekend. +SAD+

Take lots of pictures while you're there, Doug!

We were at the Specialty for most of the day today and had a grand time. So many wonderful Corgis to see! Sadly, unlike a Corgi picnic you can't just pet the dogs and hug them as they have their "good clothes" on. The Corgi people were all nice although Debbie had a funny exchange with a lady on Wednesday night at the hotel.

Deb was walking Gromit and the lady approached and asked "Well, whom do we have here?" Debbie replied brightly "This is Gromit." The lady asked somewhat imperiously "Does he have a REGISTERED name?" Debbie then compounded her error by saying "Yes, but I don't remember what it is." "You don't remember it??" the lady said. Clearly my dear wife doesn't know how to impress people in the dog show world by reciting from memory the name and last four generations of her dog's pedigree. :TWITCHY:

When Deb related the story to me I said "Just make something up next time. Tell them Gromit is 'Ch Thibedeaux's Pickled Carp Lips' and his sire is CAN/AM Ch Del Monte's Serious Flatulence, ROMX' and see how they react." :BIGLAUGH:

Anyway. my travel laptop is old and slow doesn't have good photo editing software on it so I won't have pictures to post until we get home late next week. I did shoot a ton of photos but many are not good as the show was indoors and I did get a good handle on shutter speed vs ISO setting. Nothing a good $1500 lens wouldn't have fixed. :SWOON:

That sire must have cross-bred, because that is the first entry in our Hank's (German shorthaired pointer) lineage.

Sure you can, you just wait till they're done showing for the day!!

Personally, IMO, corgis are pretty hard to "mess up". I let people pet mine before I show them, unless they're blowing coat and well then it's because I don't want more coat coming out right then.

Got an e-mail and a link from Steve R., a fellow I met at the Corgi Specialty. Steve was shooting some video and has posted a link on YouTube:

How much were the tickets and parking? The cardigan is in San Bernardino in Jan and the price just is too high for us now.

I just may have to see if there is a dog park in Beaumont or Banning we could meet at. It would be a break in your drive. Though Palm Springs would be better but their dog park is in Palm Desert.

Parking was $130 +NERVES+ because we stayed at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel Wednesday night and were able to just walk through the back gate of the fairgrounds behind the hotel for free. Normally parking at the fairgrounds is $9.00. There was no charge to get into the show itself.

We're headed back to AZ tomorrow but leaving late so we'll rolling fast through Inland Empire. Better planning for the next trip (Christmas time) so we can meet up!

Here's some pictures from the Corgi Specialty.

Seen at a rest stop area, Gromit and Holly traveled around the show in their private RV.

Jean York's "Cali" won some class or another. Sorry, I really can't keep track of all the classes. I'm just happy to see all the Corgis. +LUB+

This handsome little fellow was in his first show, having turned 6 months old the day before. He had great poise and presence for a puppy.

Gromit's brother Night won Best Puppy (I think).

I got to meet Baraba Hughes who is president of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of Southern Calfornia and owns Gromit's dad, "Chance" AKA Ch. Twinan Another Chance for Solvenick. It was nice to meet her and find that Gromit has a personality very much like his sire.

The rest of the pictures are here. (http://pets.webshots.com/album/577881881RccGXQ) I mentioned earlier that I chose the wrong lens for the camera so the photos aren't what I wanted, all a little soft or blurred, but live and learn!

It was a fun show and I think we'll head back again next year.

Well hey Doug, great pictures even if you did use the wrong lens. Now tell us a bit about the RV. It looks very versatile and and appears to have many specially engineered features. Does it convert into a crate too?

Well hey Doug, great pictures even if you did use the wrong lens. Now tell us a bit about the RV. It looks very versatile and and appears to have many specially engineered features. Does it convert into a crate too?

Debbie and I had talked about some sort of wagon to haul dogs, lawn chairs, and a cooler around when we go to street fairs, air shows, dog shows, etc. The dogs, especially the mini-wiener dog, usually run out of gas before the humans do and carrying even an 12lb doxie makes for sore backs. Carrying a Corgi is definitely not doable.

I checked Walmart and the traditional Radio Flyer Wagon with the wood sides was $129 -- much more than we wanted to spend and not all that adaptable to our needs.

Next I stopped at Home Depot and they had garden wagons like the one in the picture. They have the big, soft & quiet rolling balloon tires, a removable handle, all steel construction, and the sides and back un-latch and drop down. Carrying capacity is 700lbs. The wagon isn't really heavy either, I can easily load it into the back of our mini-van. The best part is that it was only $89. Similar items, some costing more - some less, can be found at Northern Tool. (http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/category_grounds-maintenance+wagons-yard-carts+hand-pull-wagons?cm_ven=natural&cm_cat=netconcepts&cm_pla=Google&cm_ite=garden%2Bwagon)

For the Corgi show we put the cooler and jackets up front, bungee'd the canvas folding chairs to each side, dropped the tailgate like a pick-up truck, and loaded up the dogs. Worked great! And when the dogs got tired they could hop in and have their own place to curl up:

Not as safe as a crate but practical for two generally well behaved dogs.

It was much easier for the humans too since we didn't have to lug chairs and coolers hundred of yards while fighting tangled leashes.

The only downside was that the industrial rubber tires smelled quite rubbery so to keep from smelling up the van I sprayed the tires with "piddle spray" the day before we left. Worked pretty well! :BIGGRIN"

Is that picture of them sleeping together adorable or what I ask you? +WUBCLUB+

Smart idea - and the "kids" are adorable in it. There's no reason an open sided-kennel couldn't be put in it. You could always throw a towel or something overtop when they need a nap. Very smart indeed! +TUP+

Wow, they got tired enough to give up all the smells and distractions and ride in a wagon! We must not have tried the wagon when our dog was tired enough.
