Hey guys

Has anyone ever shown in this new AKC class? I'm in the process of filling out Uno's entries for the thanksgiving cluster and I am entering him in that class along with his age group for the sweeps class. Just wondering if anyone has ever shown in the AOH class and how was it?

I haven't. I'm not eligible for it since I've shown dogs for other people and accepted money for doing that.

It should be like any other class. Judged the same way. Only the judge will know the handler is the owner (like in BBE) but maybe not the breeder.

When you get back you can tell us how it went and if it's any different from any other class.

While I could be wrong about this, the idea seems to have come out of the horse show world. I showed my horses in the Amature Owner Division all the time. It was a neat division to ride in as the fences were a little lower while the competition could be cut throat, we were all pretty much on friendly terms with each other.

I am hoping that this new thing in the AKC will be much the same. I think it would be fun to be in a ring with my dog and just enjoy having everyone see how handsome and well behaved he is. However, with his ear, it probably won't ever happen.

Speaking of, I have pretty much given up on Shaun's ear re-standing so is the ear an automatic disqualification? Though it stands up on its own at the weirdest times, it always falls back down in the following 15 to 30 minutes. It would never stand for a whole class much less a whole day. Would it be counted against him in Rally as well? We sort of been preparing for both and there are a group of shows coming up here in Miami in December.

Julie,
Rally is not like conformation, so there is no worries that his ear will keep him out of any of the performance events- so you two could enjoy agility, rally, obedience ,etc , no problems! I do think though that the ear would keep him out of conformation events... i could be wrong, but i would imagine that would be considered a fault... i will let one of the breeders/ show people answer that one as I dont really know for sure.

I think he is super handsome ear up or down!

Thanks, Emilie! I agree flopping ear or standing ear Shanie is a very good looking beastie! He's also affectionate, fun loving and amusing. In short, he is one cool dude of a Corgi!

Yep, drop ears are a disqualification in Cardis and a serious fault in Pems. +HMMM+

Here's the AKC page on Cardis (http://www.akc.org/breeds/cardigan_welsh_corgi/), and Pems (http://www.akc.org/breeds/pembroke_welsh_corgi/). (check under the 'head' sections)

Not that I'm dredging up a year old topic, or anything. +WINK+
