I thought I'd share a little update on Joey. He is doing great at his temporary home. His first weigh in was at Petsmart and he had lost 10 lbs. i haven't posted since but he had gained 2 lbs when he weighed in 2 weeks later. I was so disappointed.

He has now lost 12 lbs. So the initial drop has certainly slowed down. He is eating a shy 1/2 cup of kibble 2 times a day with green beans and sometimes broccoli slaw. Treats are very limited much to his dismay! And he seems to really like the green beans!

This dog has the most precious face! He looks at you with those big brown eyes and you just want to hug him. He has made tons of people friends at the dog park. Everyone walks over to see Joey when he comes to the park. I swear it is like he's holding court!

His breathing is much improved. He actually trots quite a bit these days. His walking pace is only slightly faster than a snail, but when he wants to move he can! He shows no interest in toys or other dogs. He's never fearful, is very tolerant of the dogs sniffing him. He is a people dog.

And he loves everyone. I swear he would go home with any stranger at the park. Tuck and Lu and I walk ahead, I have stopped crawling along with him. He has his agenda and he catches up to me eventually. But is is typically after he has said hello to everyone he knows, I am way down on his priority list at the park.

Saturday morning for the first time, he showed interest in birds. We went very early and he would bounce and hop and sneak into the bushes and come right back out. He still isn't a barker (so far my two haven't rubber off on him!). But he was clearly interacting with the birds.

The butt has started to waggle! He make motions like he wants to jump up! He kind of bounces on his front feet when I come home from work.

He does have one very bad habit... he is eating poop! Ughhhhh... Neither of my two did this so I am in uncharted water. I have those tablets for him but so far it doesn't seem to deter him. WHen I catch him it is "drop it"! Ick!

But he is still just the sweetest old guy.

I can't wait to meet Jo!!! He sounds like he is doing really well Susan! The poop eating is natural, he's hungry and he wants more food. You could try the old cayenne pepper trick - lace the poop and let him have it.

He is like Jemma, she could care less about dogs - she's a people Corgi, and I swear she'd go home with anyone! Especially if they have kids!

Keep up the good work, slow and steady is healthy for him, he'll get there!

I was just wondering about him the other day, thanks for the update. The weight loss is pretty normal ... you get a drop, might go up again, plateau and then drop again. You get a thumb's up and good job pat on the back from me.

What a personality and character! (He probably is holding court. <VBG>)These are the guys that send you head over heels in love with them.

What a terrific update - good job!!!

We're poop eating experts here, unfortunately. I haven't found anything to work except other food in the yard that's more delicious than poop.:TWITCHY: I know that's a problem with your situation as JoJo needs to loose a few. It's so much more challenging when you have multiple dogs as it's harder to keep up with the piles. Someone here once suggested throwing popcorn out into the yard - maybe that would work, it's fairly low-cal, or the old standby of green beans? Good luck with it!

Good to hear that JoJo's life is getting better every day! I can't wait to meet him! :CUTE:

Now, is he eating his own poop? Or other dogs' poop? Or both? It seems easier to deal with if they are eating their own poop. When I was at PetSmart, we had dogs in day camp who would just POUNCE on poop as soon as one of the other dogs...ahem...finished their business. There was one Aussie, who belonged to some very well-off people (dog wore a Coach collar and leash, for pete's sake!), who I literally had to outrun to the poop piles...or she would eat them before I could pick them up. Yea...Shelby had worms a lot as a result (not from the day camp dogs...she apparently ate poop at home/dog park/etc.).

His and anyone else's! The dog park is a smorgasboard for him. There is one area where dogs poop a lot and people don't pick up after them. Depending on how we enter the park, we have to walk right thru it. It's like a mine field.

So going to the park has become: 1) Keep Tucker away from the brown labs or else he gets stuck there laying with them and won't leave them. He thinks he's a brown lab these days... 2) throw Lulu's ball away from the creek because she drops it in and there are no good banks for her to get back out of the water if she goes in after it, the ball is lost forever and she is miserable (!) and 3) keep Joey away from poop.

And Soccer Moms think they have it rough!

Yay to JoJo for his weight loss! But hey guy, you need to stay away from the used dog food.

Susan - you are doing wonderful work with JoJo even if he has developed a sort of yucky habit.

[JoJo ssshhhh - don't tell anyone - ZoZo does it too. If Susan cen figure out how to get you to stop, may be she can tell me and I use the same idea on the Zoester!]

I am glad he is doing well, even if it has slowed down he is still losing wt. I wish I had any good advice for the poop eating...the only thing I would have taught of was the additives but if that is not helping I dont know. Keep us posted and post pics!!!
