I thought I'd make this a separate thread to make it easier for those who are wondering about this (expensive) grooming tool.

I used it last night on Millie - I LOVE IT! She is just starting her spring shed, Normally I use a combination of 3 tools: comb, slicker brush and shedding rake, and spend about 20 minutes on it. In 10 minutes and using just the Furminator I got twice the undercoat off her. Amazing. She had no complaints, other than that pesky Link trying to lick her every few minutes. It doesn't cut the guard hairs. I don't know how it works, but it does. It seems to do the job you would think a shedding rake would do.

If you're going to buy one, definitely shop around. I got mine from Costco.com, it was a kit with the medium furminator, trial sizes of their shampoo and rinse and a big bag of furminator treats (don't know what I'll do with them, they have gluten in them), for $39.99 including shipping. Amazon has a good price too. I was shocked yesterday when I found a terrific local pet supplies place with super low prices on high quality stuff - they had the medium for something like $23.00! I wish I had waited!

I LOVE my Furminator. I got the cat sized one and it SHOULD be big enough to use on a Corgi too.

My cats of course, hate it. But they hate to be "groomed". I think they find it insulting. :TWITCHY:

the Furminator is like a shed blade right? I bought a blade a few months ago and love it!

Works great on Em! Chloe doesn't have Emma thick pretty/pain in the _______ coat :NAH: a quick brush will do her fine but for Emma the blade is a must.

We've used an undercoat rake followed by a comb on our guys. Teva and Snicket have thinner coats - lots of guard hairs and moderate undercoat. Now Teller has a pretty thick undercoat and being that he is a baby (coming up on 9 months) I have yet to see his full tufting.

With all that in mind, I wonder how the Furminator does on guard hairs? I don't want to rip them out of the dogs, but Snicket seems to carry around enough guard hairs or another Corgi and I'd like to keep them under control.

Do you guys us the shampoo as well or is the brush fine on it's own?

I just wanted to revive this thread and ask...

Does anyone use the supplements?

Also how often do you FURminate your corgi?

I had a trial pack of the treats but never really used them. During shedding season (spring, early summer and fall) I do it about once a week. Before the Furminator I couldn't keep up with the shedding and it needed to be done about every other day. Millie is a real shed-o-matic. During regular times, like now, I do it about once a month, which was about once a week before the Furminator. There is a huge difference in the amount of corgi fur tumbleweeds in the house now, much much less.

I have this thing I found at Harbor Freight.

http://www.amazon.com/Love-Pet-Grooming-Tool-shedder/dp/B000P524NQ

It was $4 at Harbor Freight and I bought all they had, and then never found another one at any of their stores (I only bought five which I gave away for Christmas that year.) It's like a Furminator (I think it is better, actually.) I can never find it when I need it, though, so mine still look like hairballs.
