So, as some of you know, Sam has been lame for more than a month now- actually closer to two months!!!
I have done xrays, had two vet opinions etc, and nothing. Neither Vet really had any idea of what the problem could be- but suggested crate rest.

Off I went to dog physio rehab (actually she comes to my house!). Sam gets three or four treatments a week and it seems to be helping. It just takes SOOOO LONG! I get so frustrated that he isn't feeling better yet. He will still limp badly after first getting up- or out of his crate. Once he has warmed up and stretched a bit he is not as bad- just a slight limp or walking on his toes. The latest thing however has me pretty nervous. He has gotten into the habit of turning his leg out- not just his foot but the whole leg. When he is standing he looks like some sort of shepherd gone wrong! When he is lying down in a sphinx position his hip and leg are kind of at an awkward angle. He really doesn't want to put any extra weight on it in those positions. But- he is more than willing to jump around like a dork if I forget to put his leash on when I take him out of the crate....he is such a happy guy I think he kind of forgets it hurts when he is excited....

So that is the scoop on Sam these days. He is slowly getting better but it will be a LONG while before he is doing any fun doggy things....

I have an agility trial this weekend and he is going to my parents house for the weekend. He will be pretty sad that Wicca and Jack get to go and he doesn't....poor guy!

Poor Sam! You must be so frustrated . . . and so must he! Jackie and I are keeping our paws crossed for a speedy recovery from . . . whatever this is. :(

manymuddy: Have you considered taking Sam to an vet acupunturust? About 2 years ago, Rose developed what our vet diagnosed as IVDD. We were totally horrified, as he didn't give her a very bright future. In despair, I tracked down a vet who had specialised in acupuncture and took Rose to her. She was nothing short of brilliant: she was able to reassure us that there was a 95% probability that it was a back-strain, rather than IVDD and gave Rose a series of 6 acupunture treatments. The relief was immediate and visible i.e.she became more mobile, the bladder control came back, she stopped shaking etc.

Just a thought... :)

Amanda, give sam hugs from me and corgi kisses from the boys... It sounds like a long process but as long as he is improving that is what counts.. .though i know it is frustrating when it is not going fast enough for you. I am sure he just wants to feel good and jump around again too. Sending healing vibes your way...

have talked to a holistic vet in a larger city only a few hours from me and she suggested sticking with the physio for a bit longer and then go from there. I am going to start swim therapy with him in a few weeks to start building back some of that muscle...

Amanda:

I am so sorry to hear Sam is struggling and in pain. I'm sure it breaks your heart. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the physio works for him..

Keep us posted.
