View Full Version : Rhys has a blister

This morning, Rhys did not want to put his foot down. He was acting fine at bedtime.
I checked out his front left foot and he has a blister on his "pinkie" pad. +SAD+ I felt so bad. I called my mom and she said it was probably a bug bite, since it came up so suddenly (might have gotten it at the pool party yesterday). She told me to wait and see if it goes down by tonight. He looked so pathetic.

So, I'm late to work because I spent the morning carrying Rhys around - downstair to potty, out of the kitchen after eating, etc. After I put him in the living room, hewaited - then got up and went limping in the kitchen to lick Andy's empty bowl (he does this, hoping she has left something, every morning). Then he limped into the bedroom and jumped up on the bed and cuddled himself up. Still looking pathetic.

So, apparently he doesn't hurt THAT bad. But he's milking it. :TWITCHY:

I bet that you can't wait to get home to tend to him. We're sending some Mucho Mojo vibes for some quick healing. (I would be prepared for tending to a baby tonight, lol, I know what you mean about them milking it!)

Awwwww poor Rhys! Hope his foot is feeling better soon. I really do wonder what it could be? I can't imagine them getting a blister??????

Give Rhys a snuggle from me! I can't imagine a blister either - makes no sense - unless he got new shoes??

Make sure that there is nothing like a thorn or something in there that has caused the "bump".

A splinter maybe? Tana has said that their dog run is made of wood chips.

Well, Rhys is still sore. I gave him an 81mg children's aspirin with his dinner. I read on Dr. Foster & Smith website that you should give 5-15mg/pound. I am wondering if I should give him another one?

We'll stick with one now. Boy, is he enjoying getting carried around and stuff! But he isn't absolutely miserable. I tossed a cookie to Andy and Rhys ran after it and snatched it. :TWITCHY:

We'll see if we need to go to the vet in the morning.

Good idea to toss a treat to see if there is still a limp. Thank God they don't milk it when it comes to retrieving a treat! Hope Rhys is mending.

Well, my little drama queen is limping as much as ever. He has a vet appointment at 4 p.m. today. The vet assistant thinks it might be that he ran on the concrete too much on Sunday at the doggy pool party, and that the chlorinated water all over the place (thanks to dock dog Guinness :BIGGRIN") might have irritated it. They want to make sure it doesn't get infected and to try and stop him from licking it. Which might mean.....

THE DREADED CONE!!!!!!!!!:SHOCKED::SHOCKED::SHOCKED:

Poor little Rhys! I hope he doesn't get the cone treatment and that it's something minor!

That reminds me of last winter when we had no snow.... I would schedule play dates at the tennis courts. Tuck would run and play so hard his nails would wear down to the quick on the surface and start bleeding. He was oblivious to it but you would have thought he had cut his foot off.

Sending more Mojo Vibes. Keep us posted. (And the pool/water/concrete thought makes total sense. As for the cone, ask if your vet has the cloth type.)

Well, back from the vet. Seems he irritated his paws at the pool on Sunday (he actually has two pad abrasions on his back feet). On his front foot, though, he has a "moist infection" (ewwwwwwwwww) between his pinkie toe and the one next to it.
We've got 10 days of antibiotics and 5 days of pain meds. No collar needed yet, unless he doesn't stop licking it and it stays bad.

So not too bad news. :NAH:

So glad it isn't worse. I never thought about abrasions like that. Guess they need pool shoes for dogs like people have!

Anyone know if an infant sock will fit a corgi? Just an idea if they insist on licking a sore spot. I realized on Chester's tail that the sock would just go flying, but would like to have one on hand for future.

So glad that Rhys is ok (relatively). Have fun feeding him all those pills! No matter what I hide medication in, Jackie manages to find it & spit it out. Jackie is sending some extra kisses to Rhys today, and hopes that he won't have to ruin his handsome, studly image with a dorky cone.

We put baby (or toddler, can't remember) socks on Millie when she wore her pads off playing baseball. First they were coated w/neosporin, then wrapped in gauze and then the socks to keep it all together. Worked good and she tolerated it pretty well too. Her favorite thing the whole world is baseball.

Poor Rhys!

Nice tip for an item for all of us to keep on hand, a pair of toddler's/children's socks.

Probably wouldn't work on a long Corgi body, but my brother also dressed his pug (Dave) up in baby onsies after neutering because Dave couldn't eat with the cone on...

...and our dogs wonder why they're spoiled. We think they're babies!

Glad to hear Rhys is doing okay...Mac needs him in tip top shape to play again soon!

I have onsies for Mojo, and I carry them in the dog bag(our version of a diaper bag) when she gets wild, it helps to have one on her, keeps her paws(claws) from tearing up things, especially my skin! Yep, if they made them long enough that they would fit on a Corgi's body, then that would be one LONG baby!

Well...Rhys wouldn't stop licking his foot and he has somehow managed to lick off a little bald patch! Soooooo......

Poor Rhys! He does look sad! I'm sure that seeing this vulnerable side will only make Jackie love him more, but I won't show her if he doesn't want me to. :CUTE: How is his paw looking today?

And I did put onesies on Jackie after her spay. I had to use 2T size, and I didn't keep them snapped all the way, but they did the trick (more or less). Plus I made sure to get some with cute sassy sayings on them. She looked so cute, but it made her butt look extra fluffy, since her body fluff was held down by the onesie!!

His little paw is looking a bit better. I put him up on the bed with me about 1130 last night and he laid down to sleep. He hardly moved all night!

This morning, I picked him up and took him downstairs to potty. Then I took off his cone long enough for him to eat and drink (he hasn't figured out how to do so in the cone). :CUTE:

The dog walker said she would go by and check on him - no charge - this week. :BIGGRIN" I'm going to ask if she can just take off his cone and let him have water, then put it back on.

You are a lucky boy to be getting such wonderful care from your Momma, and it sounds like you have a great dog walker too.

Just an FYI: I bought the regular Elizabethan collar and an inflatable "ring" collar last night at PETCO, just to see which worked better.

The inflatable one did not extend out enough to block his feet. Maybe if his legs weren't so short it would have worked!

Tana, thanks for the test. Makes me feel better about getting the 8inch floppy cone. I thought I might be extreme but could cut it. Now it sounds about right.
