Tomorrow Link gets neutered. I wasn't too concerned about it until he vomited both this morning and now tonight. We were really careful today about not letting him eat stuff in the backyard, and there wasn't any 'foreign' matter in what came up. But, his poops are normal and he's acting his normal self, so I'm not canceling. But I am crossing my fingers that it goes well.

The vet may ask you to cancel if he vomitted tonight. Make sure that he knows when you go tomorrow. There's no point taking any risks while he is under anesthetic.
Rupe did the same thing and when I took him in they wouldn't do it for that reason. When I told the gang at work, all the men thought Rupert was brilliant in coming up with a plan to avoid the "big snip"!!!

But with humans they would be thrilled that the stomach and everything were empty! Interesting to know for dogs. Do you have to withhold breakfast, or food for 12 hours before surgery?
The instructions are no food after 7 pm, no water after midnight. I'll give them a call before I leave in the morning to ask about the vomiting. The vet office is a bit of a drive through traffic and I'd hate to make it for nothing. Link seems fine, though.

You get a good night's rest too so you can be rested for tomorrow's worry time. I forget, does Link have to spend the night? Post all the details of how he is when you pick him up. This is a new one for me when the time comes for Chester. We always had females in the past and hubby doesn't want to be the one taking Chester in for THIS! I'm sure Link will get so much attention and sympathy from your sons, he won't think the surgery was bad at all.

Sending some good wishes and quick healing Mojo vibes your way. Hope that you stay sane today, it's really hard to think about them being in surgery. Do what I do and shop!!! It's amazing what retail therapy can do for you, and hey, it does wonders for the economy as well, so get out there and do your part. Seriously, let us know how everything goes, and I'm sure that it will go smoothly.
I just got back from dropping Link off. No problem with the vomit thing, he wasn't getting out of it that easy I guess. He was VERY hungry this morning and acting normal so he must be fine.
Normally in the car he's fine. Today he cried all the way there - too funny! Well, not so much crying as complaining, his grumble-grumble whine.
I'd really love to do some retail therapy and help out the economy (which is especially bad in our area right now) but I have too much stupid work to do. Would be perfect too, as I usually rush around when shopping so I can get home to let Link out of his crate. No Link and no crate today. Oh well.
Well, HOLY COW!!!! The vet's office just called and said Link is out of surgery already and can come home at 1:00!!! :BIGGRIN" He did just fine!!!!
When I dropped him off they said it would probably be around 4:00. They must have done him first. Maybe because he was so 'vocal' this morning they want him out of there? Whatever, I'll take it!
I guess Millie's Top Dog for the Day won't last as long as we thought!

Wonderful! Millie will still have top dog day as Link will be lethargic, UNLESS his hunger instinct continues to rule his vocal cords.:TWITCHY:
Thank you for the warning that the drive down the mountain will be very vocal and complaining about no breakfast, so I'll need music!

Miss Gambler was starving, and she let us know it, it was quite sad Merrie. With Mojo, she didn't really act hungry, it was water that she desperately wanted, and we felt awful for not giving it to her(for both surgeries). The second time, hubby even got upset and said "what if something happens in surgery and her last thoughts are that I didn't give her any water", he was quite upset by that, then I was +SAD+.

My husband made me get up when he did this morning so I could "handle" the dogs and their lack of breakfast (we held Millie's breakfast until after I dropped Link off). He is just a softie with them and can't not feed them.
Well, Link is home. He was so happy to see me at the vet's and cried again on the way home before he fell asleep. I have pain meds to give him for the next 3 days. Stitches come out in 10 days. He's sleeping now.
He has a small incision and he's shaved down there. His poor little scrotum is flat as a pancake. His links are gone.
The hard part will be keeping him from jumping and running. How on earth? For 10 days????

The hard part will be keeping him from jumping and running. How on earth? For 10 days????Oh my word, I'd have to keep the travel harness on Chester, 10 days??? Oh my. No running, only walking - but, but, but, the dog won't get tired out and nap after the drugs run out. No frapping? I knew this would be a shock for me.
GOOD LUCK. Oh and I love your descriptive words of Link.

Give him the meds whether you think that he needs them or not. Keeping him slightly sedated will help with the healing(a rested person AND animal heal faster, fact)and may reduce the risk of injury from trying to play too soon. We learned with Mojo to not feel bad about sedating, it was for her benefit. (And the benefits for us weren't that bad either :CUTE:)

Too bad we can't give a puppy meds as they don't know they are NOT supposed to jump down at 5 months. I darted into the bathroom for a second as something got in my eye. I come out to see Chester on the couch and when he saw me, he jumped over the arm of the couch and the corner of the end table to me. Actually a beautiful jump and was far enough out that he landed beautifully....if he wasn't only 5 months:REALLYMAD:

Glad to hear everything went well.We had a hard time keeping Maeve quiet after hers too. They said only out on the leash for 10 days....well, little miss will NOT potty on a leash, so we ended up letting her out into the fenced area and staying with her to keep her quiet. Not in the corgi nature, is it?

Ummm, after Rhys lost his pieces :TWITCHY: I had a heck of a time trying to stop him from being himself. The next day, he wanted to run and play and jump on and off the couch. I restrained him as best as a I could! They do not mind their doctors' orders very well!

Mac's gonna be mad... he'll have to miss TWO puppy classes! Glad to hear that Link did just fine with his tutoring.
Looks like we have a few coming up soon, though... Colby in a week or so, then Mac (just made his appointment for the 12th), then Chester to follow suit.
Lots of little male puppies losing their manhood on the forum this fall! :)
Well he's already failed - he ran around in the yard and sat up to beg. We're doing our best, really! Yes, I want to give him the pain meds to try to just keep him down. His favorite place each morning when I'm showering and getting ready is our bed. Oy. Our bedroom door will be closed until those stitches come out. keeping him from licking and chewing on IT has been a challenge, too. I put some Neosporin w/pain relief on it, maybe it will help numb it a bit? I don't think he'd let me hold an ice pack on it.:TWITCHY:
About missing classes - when Link was in puppy class the big (mean) dog was neutered, and he came to class the next day, and he was fine. Nobody batted an eye and the owner said the vet had ok'd it. If it was an agility class I would not go, but a puppy class should be ok, without the floor play, at least.

Unfortunately, the classes Mac is in are all about socialization... it'd be HARD to take him to class without letting him run around. He would be pretty distracted the whole time. :o\ We'll have to talk to the vet once the date draws nearer.
In the meantime, anyone want to go to class this week with Colin? I have my open house at school and Colin is refusing to go alone! *GRUMBLE*

Chester won't be neutered until winter - 9 to 12 months.
You might be able to sneak an ice pack for a second or two when he is napping. Chester is frapping right now and I just look at him thinking no running after surgery, oh my. I do sympathize for Link and you.
Delta had the soft collar for Mojo and I think I will look into that or a onsie. At least for that first night. Maybe wearing something would calm Link?

You're right Merrie, Mojo's was so soft, and she NEVER acted like it bothered her at all, and she wore it faithfully. Not once did she get to her stitches(either surgery), and she would have, the vet knew that, and that's why she went with the soft one, she knew that the hard plastic one would drive her and us nuts. It was about $12 I believe, from the vet, it was made out of a soft blue cloth and is even washable. Since Mojo will not grow, I will always have it if anything pops up in the future.
