This first pic was taken less than 24 hours after Dylan's "Traditional" ACL surgery. He was able to stand and tri pod a few steps as soon as he woke up the Vet said. There are more than one layer of stitches, it does look awful though.

The first while he was very confined, needed to be carried outside & was only allowed this small space and his bigger kennel.

Eventually his pen was allowed to be enlarged.

Keeping him in the center of the family was very import to us, and all of the slippery floors were matted (rubber backed) once he was able to walk around the room.

The one thing that he hated, and needed was the ice packs after each of the range of motions exercise that I did with him.

I tried confining Merlin like that... he jumped up and down and tried to jump out. Even when he settled down and went to sleep, as soon as I came towards him he started jumping. (He bore weight on his leg almost immediately.)

There was a lot of post-op pain the first night; make SURE they send you home with something strong if they don't keep him the first night. The first time Merlin did not sleep at all the night after surgery. The second surgery and third, I made sure he had sufficient stuff to knock us both out.

As I've said before, I'm very luck that Dylan is a 'quiet dog'. Dylan too had pain meds for the first while.

Poor Merlin, Poor you Bobby.+SAD+

I talked to the vet about that- they will keep him two days (one night) Sam is a very active guy but is pretty used to all the crate rest now. And he is very good in an ex-pen so I don't think that will be an issue right away. Thanks for the pictures Barbara- I am feeling better today about it and really just want it done and overwith.
