View Full Version : Millie didn't eat her breakfast
She NEVER skips a meal, unless something is wrong. I was tring to check her out a little while ago but she was licking a lot, I let her outside and she threw up twice, it was white and foamy. She pooped and peed, it looked normal (poop, at least).
I plan on taking her to the vet - but which vet? She has only been to one vet office in the past 6 years and I'm not thrilled with them, they over vaccinate, throw antibiotics at everything. But there is one doc there who is ok (well, not as bad as the other). Link has been to the new vet, they are better and seem more sensible, but of course Millie has no history there at all.

I would take her to the new vet - they don't necessarily need her history to treat her today. It sounds as if you would be changing her at some time to the new one anyways.

Agreed... if YOU were sick, would you rather go to your old, not so great doctor, or the new one? They'll ask all they need to know about her history, or you can tell them, once you're there. You can probably even get rolling on transferring her records there today...
Good points, I made an appt with the new vet for 3pm. I'm so glad to have C2bC to ask my questions. It seems all my normally pretty good common sense just flies out the window when one of my dogs gets sick. I'm not like that with the kids, just the dogs. Maybe because canine medicine is such a mystery to me? Funny thing, here I worrry about her history when she has very little to comment on. She's been so healthy with a just an occasional blip here and there. <knock on wood>
Millie's resting now, she looks uncomfortable though. She's been a bit "off" since the rabies vaccine thing back in April. Never really bounced back to 100%. I'll ask for a blood workup today, good time to do it as she hasn't eaten.

Good call - we know what it's like when our pets get sick and sometimes we just need to hear that what we are thinking is what others do to.
Please keep us updated!! Here's hoping she's just got a bit of a tummy bug.

Hoping for a good outcome at the Vet's for Millie. And I agree with going to the new Vet. No point in taking her to someone that you don't have any faith in.
Good luck, and please keep us posted.

There's more than enough doctors out there so if you ever have a problem with one, go next door. This goes for pets and humans. Give Millie a feel-better hug from me and my two.

I am TIRED! I spent 3 hours at the vet! They were so busy. I do like this one better than the old though, I didn't hear anything like what I used to hear, and I listened to everything going on there.
Anyway, right now Millie is feeling good. She got some drugs for nausea/gas and antibiotics, along with some fluids under her skin. they took xrays that showed massive gas pockets but no blockages. They also showed that her stomach was in a strange position, moved over into the liver area, and the liver appeared shrunken. Does anyone with lots of corgi knowledge know anything about this? Are corgi livers and stomachs just like that or could it be a problem?
They took blood, we will find out tomorrow about that. She had bloody mucus when they took her temp so she has antibiotics. But her temp was normal. She is to eat only liquids tonight and starting tomorrow bland foods. She's tootin', getting that gas out of her - PU!

So does Link love the smell of her tootin, or does he go the other way?:TWITCHY: Sounds like a thorough Vet. I haven't heard of a small liver. Keep us posted.

It may mean that you all have to suffer, but it's good the gas is moving. Her liver may just have appeared smaller because of the positioning of everything due to the gas. Try not to worry - we're sending good vibes Millie's way.

We had a dog that had a blockage that was not visible on x-ray. She had swallowed a ball that was not dense enough to show up. $300 surgery she was fine. Several years later she died for unspecified reasons. We think her intestines had been twisted. I think some breeds are prone to that more than corgis.
Not saying Millie has that problem but for the sake of others I thought I would mention this. If she is passing stool that is a good sign?
Hope all goes well.

Oh, man, the stench! I'm in my office, she's down the hall outside the master bedroom door. OY! Can't imagine it any stronger than it is right here by me! Poor girl, her spirits are good at least. And yes, even Link is avoiding her tonight. At least she has that going for her.

I'll keep sending good health vibes anyway, but it sounds like the issue may be working itself out, literally.

How is Millie doing this morning? Still lots of gas?
She looks better than yesterday, and still pushing out the gas. Unbelievable! I just got off the phone with the vet office, her blood work didn't come in today, will have to wait until Monday. Hope that doesn't mean there's a problem.
Oh, Merrie, Millie is 10 1/2 yrs.

Don't worry about the bloodwork - it probably just means the lab was busy and that's all.
Good that she's still pushing gas, that will help her - but not you guys!

I'm sure that Millie getting rid of the gas is a good thing.
And as Deb said, the lab is just probably very busy. Vibes for good blood test results for your girl.
Actually, living here with DH and 2 teen boys I'm very used to gas. But since Millie hangs out with me in my office I get the full brunt of it, plus all the guys' gas too. I am glad she's passing it, that stuff can be painful!+SAD+

Sounds like she will be just fine - the gas was probably just extending her gut so that stomach moved.
Let's hope that's all there is to it!

here are more "anti-gassy" vibes for you. So glad that she's feeling better and seems to be perking up. Hopefully it was just a bug or something she ate in the yard that will be gone soon.

Did the vets think it was a problem? It might be normal for her. Who knows. To answer your question, no, none of my dogs who have had x rays ahave had a stomach any place other than where it should be or abnormal looking livers. They should be about the same as other dogs.
Hope she's well soon.

That must be it - I just got her blood results, they are totally normal. Yay! We'll be leaving in a few days to go out of town (bringing both dogs) to visit both sides of the family (:ARG:) and I was getting nervous about her health. She's doing very well now.
